Gastrointestinal Disorders

Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acid reflux, leaky gut, and inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, are incredibly common and can severely impact quality of life. These disorders often stem from a combination of underlying causes that disrupt the normal function of the GI tract. Poor diet—particularly one high in processed foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats—can lead to inflammation, gut dysbiosis, and nutrient deficiencies, which aggravate GI issues. Stress is another key factor, as chronic stress impacts digestion, alters gut motility, and weakens the gut lining, making it more permeable to harmful substances. Additionally, infections, medications (especially antibiotics and NSAIDs), and hormonal imbalances can all disrupt gut health and contribute to chronic GI symptoms. Identifying and addressing these root causes through dietary changes, stress management, and, where appropriate, targeted supplements can significantly help in managing and improving GI health.

Additional testing is available that can greatly assist in determining the cause of why you're experiencing the symptoms you are rather than just taking a medication or blindly taking a supplement to cover them up.

  • Stool testing often reveals issues with: H. pylori, dysbiosis (overgrowth of the wrong bacteria), too little good bacteria, candida, parasites, and immune, detox, and inflammation.

  • Food sensitivity testing while not perfect, can also guide better food choices.

  • Breath testing can show small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, otherwise known as SIBO.
